Installation: Fred Perry

Came across this amazing installation in the window of Fred Perry while in Covent Garden. Soo detailed. I love the way it forms chairs for visitors and acts a permanent desk for a receptionist. No sure how long its been there or who it was designed by but if anyone knows please do comment on the blog.

Website: Established & Sons

Loving this new website for British company Established & Sons. Designed by MadeThought. Beautifully large typography with amazingly shot photographs of cool products. What more can one ask for...

Neville Brody; Wanker or Genius?

Neville gave his D&AD Presidents Lecture on Wednesday night entitled “Wanker or Genius” to a packed house at the Logan Hall in London. Questions were tweeted from near and far to help steer a conversation which was warmly received as more a call for a design education/industry revolution than retrospective. The conversation touched on recent work, creativity, education and politics. Quite insightful I must say. Neville has accomplished so much in his time and is truly an inspiration for thousands. Below you can see the verdict, enough said...

London 2012 Olympic Pictograms

Really liking the new 2012 olympic pictograms designed by Someone. They definitely carry that same dynamic feel that the logo possesses. Have a look at the full collection over on the London 2012 website.

Keepcup

As far as campaign initiatives go and trying to better the world, Im not sure if Keepcup will catch on because I'm personally not interested in the use of it. But Im not sure about the general public. The design of the cups and brand identity on the other hand are actually something that I quite like. I would probably get the cup and keep it on my shelf for aesthetic reasons. So after completely contradicting myself, I think you guys should probably check it out for yourselves if you havent already. They were being sold at Tent London for the Design festival if you missed it.

The keep cup is a reusable coffee cup that comes in the three standard cafe sizes. the cup allows users to order a coffee to go at their favourite café, while avoiding using a disposable cup. the cup was designed by former café owners fed up with the waste from coffee to go. the two designed the keep cup for use in their café, but its standard sizes make it ideal for any café. the design is made from polypropylene, santoprene and silicone making it lightweight, dishwasher safe and microwaveable. because it mimics the design of paper cups, the keep cup fits better than mugs in espresso machines and a sealable lid keep everything inside. the design even has a sleeve that protect your finger from hot temperatures and allows you to select your drink of choice.

Peepoobag

I found this a couple of weeks ago, thought it was quite interesting. The name I thought was actually quite clever. I think it's a bit of a weak attempt at trying to save the world though and make profit. It's a step in the right direction I think but its a just small and temporary measure to try a fix a problem that is huge. If 2.6 billion people will use it I guess it's a good move and definitely needs positive feedback. check the website...

The Blueprint 3

Amazing album and beautiful artwork. Check out the work of photographer Dan Tobin Smith great stuff produced for an impressive list of clients. I witnessed Jay Z perform at Wembley supporting Coldplay last Saturday. Both acts were awesome, I was completely tuned in for their entire performances. Nice bit of print to take a way as well, a special CD and Coldplay booklet.

London Design Festival: Tent London

Some really amazing interactive stuff this year at Tent London. Above is work by Flynn Talbot, 'Horizon'. Horizon recreates sky patterns. It explores light vs. space. Visitors are invited to interact and create new sky effects.
Hello my name is Wattson. I show how much electricity your home is using. I make energy saving easier. And I’m gorgeous.

MSA VISUALS LTD - Gold is an interactive installation which explores our obsession with super-stardom, and the extravagance that accompanies it. Through a magic mirror, revel in a world of excess where you are the super-star. Shower in glittery gold, experience almost omnipotent powers as you materialize, morph and dematerialize into pure sparkling gold dust. Immortalize yourself as a shimmering golden statue, before you collapse and disintegrate into the wind.

London Design Festival: V&A

Pentagram partner Domenic Lippa and Sir John Sorrell, chairman of the London Design Festival, have commissioned 20 UK-based graphic designers to create posters with a London theme for this year’s event. The posters will be on display in the V&A’s Sackler Centre during the festival. There were some restrictions within the design, only red and black could be used. The 20 designers who have produced a poster for the project are: Alan Aboud, Alan Kitching, Angus Hyland, Bibliothèque, Jonathan Ellery, Damon Murray and Stephen Sorrell of fuel, Derek and Fred Birdsall, Fernando Gutiérrez, Henrik Kubel, Jeremy Leslie, Matt Willey, Michael Wolff, Mike Dempsey, Nick Bell, Morag Myerscough (her poster shown above), Quentin Newark, Studio Frith (shown below), Tom Hingston Studio, Tony Brook and Andy Altmann.
Below are a couple of my favourite posters from the exhibit...

Nottinghill Carnival 2009

Once again Carnival brought a little highlight to the year for me, sounds of Norman Jay @ Good Times, Sancho Panza, KCC & The Rocking Crew were all personal favourites of mine. The sun even decided to bless us with some rays on the Monday. I didn't see any violence, but I'm sure that the vibe wasn't nice everywhere and the police didn't get in the way too much!!!

Phone Upgrade

'In with the new and out with the old', 3 have given me the new N86 8MP. I'm not entirely taken by it. I think that the N95 8GB aesthetically felt and looked cooler and the user interface was massively better designed. It feels like I'm stepping backwards and the only thing that has improved is the camera. But as far as Mega pixels go, 5MP on the N95 was impressive enough. Not sure what else to say, it was that or the Blackberry Bold. What would you have picked?

Basic Shapes: Typeface design

'Basic Shapes' was inspired by the use of geometric shapes. As part of a pitch for Kingston University Degree Show, I was experimenting with the idea of illusion, depth of field and perspective. By overlapping the shapes I was able to create this interesting typeface.

Blok Typeface Alphabet: Logo Design

The letter forms interlock allowing children to build structures encouraging them to learn the basic rules and words within the English language, essentially building their vocabulary. Below is a key highlighting the different categories of words...

PJ Chorus: Typeface design

To accompany the new logo and Identity for PJ Chorus, I have designed this custom made typeface, 'Untitled' as of yet. The bold dots form the letters with a glow representing light and shadow. For the time being there is only one weight in uppercase. Numerals and commonly used puntuation marks are also included.

CV: Update

It is increasingly more important in todays economy when trying to find employment to keep your CV up to date. If you are a designer like myself then you will also want to keep your portfolio update. If you aren't working on live briefs or lucky enough to have freelance work, keep yourself and your mind active by setting yourself briefs or taking part in competition briefs. An employer wants to see self motivation and the desire to work.

FCUK Christmas

I was recently asked by French Connection UK to design their Oxford Street Christmas shop windows. I spent an intense one week working on it and on Tuesday 18th August I presented my 3 uniquely different concepts to their Head of Graphics, Graeme Williams. As soon as I can I will upload some visuals for you all to see.

Landor

I was recently asked by Landor, Hamburg to visit their studio and present my work, with the possibility of working with them for a 6 month period. Unfortunately I wasn't selected on this occasion but the experience of traveling to Hamburg will never be forgotten. I received really good feedback on my portfolio and was able to explore the city for the day.

Paradise Island

St.Lucia 2009... What an experience! I strongly suggest that if you haven't been, GO! Definitely make it there at some point in your life. In the year there is a lot going on around May time, The Jazz Festival is on and the Carnival is at the end of July. There isn't much in aid of creative inspiration, its the complete opposite. I think your mind will actually begin to shutdown if you stay there for too long. Relaxation is constantly, consciously and subconsciously on the agenda, for the locals and the visitors.

K_fFrench-James Website: Under construction

My website is currently under construction and will be ready to view hopefully very soon. Teaching yourself Dreamweaver is no easy task, believe me...

Lily Kitten: New work

Recently designed Logo and Trade show invitations for new clothing brand Lily Kitten. Part of Lulu & Red, Lily Kitten is aimed at a more kitch and playful younger female market. The logo is designed to be a bit edgy and work alongside the current Lulu & Red logo. Invitations printed on GFSmith Fuchsia Pink using Black Foil. New website and other collateral for Lulu & Red coming soon...

PJ Chorus: New work

Over the last few months I have been working with my brother Ross to produce the logo and identity for his music production company PJ Chorus. It's a family led business specializing in a mixture of sounds with influences from Jazz, Soul, R'n'B, Hip Hop and House music. Ross is currently studying for his degree in Music Technology. He works in his home studio based in North West London and has been working on a number of tracks with a wide range of artists including Coree from Damage. The logo is near completion and just being art worked. I will update the blog as soon as the rest of the collateral is printed and ready for distribution. Check out the video for 'Lost Without Reason' produced by PJ Chorus in 2006.

Creative Writing Workshop

Charlie Dark founder of Run Dem Crew, DJ, peot and all round really nice guy, held a half-day creative writing workshop set up by Protein at Nike Sportswear's Shoreditch studio, gallery space and concept store 1984 in East London on Saturday 15th August. Which was I must say was quite interesting. We ran through a couple of his techniques that he uses in his lectures. It was a bit quick paced and a lot was crammed into a small amount of time but I definitely left with a few things to think about. A DVD will be produced of the day which I will be sure to try and post.

In association with Nike Charlie recently produced a video for their 'I AM1 Journey' campaign. Take a look at the video and also look at the website, it's pretty cool.

W+K Platform

I produced this short 3 minute video for Platform. A Creative careers development program set up by Wieden + Kennedy. The brief was simply to introduce myself while also answering 5 all important questions. Take a look, you should hopefully get a couple of laughs out of it...
